Hearing test take two
B has another hearing test today because they had trouble testing him the first time. In the Audiology Clinic they put him in a box like the TARDIS but it's not bigger on the inside. It's sound proofed inside. I had no concerns about his hearing but he is still not saying any words. He vocalises sounds when interacting. He passed the distraction test today with better and faster responses then his first test in December 2009. Consultant Community Paediatrician in Audiology says B's hearing appears to be adequate for his speech to progress further and he is discharged from the Audiology Clinic.

Hearing test take 1
B has his first hearing test today at the audiology clinic. He will not cooperate though. I have no concerns about his hearing because he does respond to sounds but we've got to check his hearing to rule it out as a cause for delayed speech. We're in the TARDIS box (which is not bigger on the inside). They make sounds behind B's back and expect him to turn his whole head around to see the source of the noise. B chooses to flicker his eyes acknowledging the sound but refusing to turn his head. The staff know he can hear the noise but they don't pass him this time because he is not "ticking the boxes". He is like that B he is wants things on his terms and makes everything more awkward.

Newborn hearing screening
I got a letter today from the hospital reminding me that I have refused the newborn hearing screening. I explained to them I did not feel it was necessary to take my newborn son into a hospital when he had had a lovely homebirth and we were resting at home. I understand that babies can be born with hearing loss and I'm aware of the risk factors but I'm confident that if I had any concerns about B's hearing that I would contact the clinic straight away. I'm going to continue to watch him as he grows and check for reactions he makes to sounds as he grows older and the sounds he makes as he grows older.
